And now, this week's episode.

Speaker:

While most podcast recordings are indoors,

Speaker:

there will be times when you might need to record outside.

Speaker:

With all the unknowns that can come with that, how can you ensure you still get great audio?

Speaker:

Here are three quick tips.

Speaker:

Use the right mics.

Speaker:

This is where dynamic mics are great, as they offer more protection from background noise.

Speaker:

Lavalier clip-on mics are also good.

Speaker:

Just make sure whatever mics you use, they're close to the speaker's mouth.

Speaker:

The closer they are, the less background noise can appear.

Speaker:

Respect the environment.

Speaker:

If it's windy, turn the mics away from the sound and focus on picking up as much of the speaker as possible.

Speaker:

Use a windscreen too, to help block out any wind or any other ambient noises.

Speaker:

And finally, post-production is your friend.

Speaker:

Even if you limit as much noise as possible when recording,

Speaker:

take the time to edit the audio properly afterward,

Speaker:

with noise remover tools as a starting point.

Speaker:

By taking the time to plan for your outdoor recordings, you'll still get great results.

Speaker:

Until the next time, happy podcasting!

Speaker:

Thanks for listening.

Danny Brown

Danny Brown is the host of One Minute Podcast Tips, the show that helps you be a better podcaster in just a minute a week. He's also hosted, and co-hosted, several other podcasts - if you called him a serial podcaster, you wouldn't be wrong! He's been in the podcasting space for over 10 years, and has the scars to prove it.

He's the Head of Podcaster Support and Experience at Captivate.fm, the world's only growth-oriented podcast hosting, distribution, analytics, and monetization platform for the serious indie podcaster.

He lives in beautiful Muskoka, Ontario, Canada with his wife and two kids, where he spends winters in front of a cozy fire and summers by the lake. Well, when he finds time away from podcasting, of course...
