Speaker:

Now, this week's episode.

Speaker:

When it comes to the listener experience for your podcast,

Speaker:

obviously the quality of your audio is key.

Speaker:

And I spoke before in episode 44

Speaker:

about how to improve the quality of your audio

Speaker:

before you actually start recording.

Speaker:

And while great audio is important for all listeners, it's also really important for a specific community.

Speaker:

Just as transcripts are really important for the hard of hearing community,

Speaker:

making sure your audio is clean is super important for those that suffer from misophonia.

Speaker:

Misophonia is an extreme intolerance to certain sounds.

Speaker:

Now most often these are ones that come from the nose, throat or mouth,

Speaker:

which include chewing, coughing, sniffling or lip smacking.

Speaker:

Now it's that last one that's relevant for podcasting.

Speaker:

Lip smacking happens when you have a dry throat

Speaker:

and when you're speaking you can hear sort of little clicks in your voice

Speaker:

and that's why it's called lip smacking, it sounds like you're smacking your lips together.

Speaker:

Now on a podcast this can come across really clearly

Speaker:

because obviously you're speaking closer to a microphone

Speaker:

and a lot of podcast listeners listen via headphones

Speaker:

and the problem with misophonia, it causes really bad reactions for people that suffer from it.

Speaker:

That includes feelings of anxiety, panic and rage.

Speaker:

The good news is it's really easy to clear up these sounds.

Speaker:

You can either use free solutions like Auphonic which has a really good mouth noise remover

Speaker:

Or you can use a premium plugin, like iZotope De-Click,

Speaker:

and that plugin works with most editing software.

Speaker:

And I'll leave links to those in the show notes,

Speaker:

so be sure to check them out after the episode.

Speaker:

Until the next time, happy podcasting.

Speaker:

Speaker:

Thanks for listening.
